The Austin Fire Department rescued three people and a dog after they were reportedly swept downstream in a tent around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

CBS Austin had a photographer on scene who witnessed the rescue.

"All three victims were removed by fire crews and EMS, and transferred to EMS for evaluation," Battalion Chief Pete Constantine told reporters.

Constantine said the homeless population need to seek high ground during heavy rain events.

"The weather in Texas changes pretty quick," Constantine said. "Even though we anticipated rain coming, a lot of the time, our unhoused population doesn't have access to that information."
